Migration process
Stablepoint offers a free migration service with all of our hosting packages. This means we can move your site with minimal or even zero downtime - all that we need from you are your existing hosting log-in details so that we can get access to your files and database(s).
Requesting migrations
To start this process you just need to raise a ticket with us under the Support section in your client area and enter your details there. If this is for a new hosting account or server you should first place the order for that new service.
You can request as many migrations as you like, at any point. You do not need to do all of your migrations at once.
How long do migrations take?
Usually we can do migrations quickly and start immediately. However, please note that manual migrations can take a couple of days depending on the size and complexity of your website as well as depending what ways to transfer the data are allowed on the outgoing server.
You can also request that a migration start at a specific time, or be done out of hours.
cPanel Migrations
If you are using a provider that uses cPanel as well, we can move your content (databases, files, emails, forwarders, etc.) in one go.
cPanel has the function to quickly create a full backup file which we can easily restore from our end. To do this, we will need your existing host's cPanel login details, and it is also important that your host allows you to create your own cPanel account backups (unfortunately some hosts disable this and we have to do it manually which can take longer).
Non cPanel Migrations
- If your provider doesn't use cPanel, we will manually copy your site files using FTP (or SSH, if it is available) and download a copy of your database(s).
Mail migrations
If you are moving email accounts, we have a free mail migrations tool. This performs an IMAP transfer from the old server to the new server.
Previewing migrations
Once the migration is completed, you can have a look at the final result using a hosts file. Check out our step-by-step guide how to setup a hosts file
Putting the new site live
Once you confirm everything is working as it should you're ready to point your nameservers to ourselves:
-
ns1.stablepoint.com
-
ns2.stablepoint.com
-
ns3.stablepoint.com
-
ns4.stablepoint.com
Once the nameservers are updated, your domain name will start pointing to our servers and load your content from here.
If you have any questions regarding the above feel free to contact us for more info.
