Backuply is a WordPress backup plugin available through Softaculous that lets you create and manage backups of your WordPress site from within WordPress itself.
Why use Backuply
While we take server-level backups with JetBackup, having your own application-level backups gives you extra control:
- Back up before making risky changes (plugin updates, theme changes)
- Store copies off-server (Google Drive, Dropbox, FTP, and other destinations)
- Restore your site yourself without waiting
Installing Backuply
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for Backuply.
- Click Install Now, and then Activate.
Alternatively, if you installed WordPress through Softaculous, Backuply may already be available.
Creating a backup
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Backuply.
- Click Backup Now.
- Choose what to include (files, database, or both).
- Choose the backup destination (local storage or a configured remote destination).
- Start the backup.
Restoring a backup
- Go to Backuply in your WordPress dashboard.
- Find the backup in the list.
- Click Restore.
- Confirm the restore.
Restoring replaces your current site files and/or database with the backup contents. Any changes made after the backup date will be lost.
Scheduling automatic backups
Backuply supports scheduled backups so you always have a recent copy:
- In Backuply, open the Settings or Schedule section.
- Choose the backup frequency (daily, weekly, etc.).
- Set a retention count so old backups are rotated out automatically.
- Save.
Store scheduled backups on a remote destination rather than local server storage — this protects you even in a worst-case scenario and doesn’t consume your hosting disk space.
