# Overview of .AU Domain

The .AU domain is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Australia, managed by the Australian Domain Name Administrator (auDA). It signals to visitors that your business or organisation is based in, or serves, the Australian market.

## Eligibility Requirements

To register a .AU domain, the registrant must have an **Australian presence**. Eligible registrants include:

* An Australian registered business or organisation
* A sole trader or partnership operating in Australia
* A foreign business licensed to trade in Australia
* An Australian registered non-profit organisation or political party
* An Australian registered charity, club or association
* An Australian citizen or permanent resident

## Information Required

* Registrant name exactly as it appears on the relevant registration or identity record
* Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN), where applicable. An ABN is recommended, as it helps the registry confirm the legitimacy of the registrant.
* If eligibility is based on an Australian trademark, the trademark number. The domain name must be an exact match of the trademark.

## Additional Information

All .AU registrations must comply with the rules and policies set by auDA. Please make sure the registrant details you provide are accurate and kept up to date, as auDA may verify eligibility at any time.

> **Note for .com.au and .net.au:** auDA has approved in principle a change to the eligibility rules for .com.au and .net.au. Under the proposed change, the domain name would need to match the registrant's legal or business name (or its acronym). No effective date has been confirmed yet.
